   The big news of the spring fishing season is the influx of bluefin tuna that have included fish up in the 150 to 200 pound class.  Bluefin remain illegal to keep while fishing in Mexican waters and the good news about the current run of bluefin tuna is that there have been good numbers of fish up above the Mexican border in United States waters.  A few yellowfin tuna have been mixed with the bluefin tuna in local offshore waters and there have also been yellowtail biting under kelp paddies.  

   The recent fishing along the San Diego County coast has been highlighted by some catches of yellowtail in the La Jolla region and the fishing for calico bass and rockfish has been steady for boats fishing various hard bottom and kelp bed areas.  The yellowtail fishing at the Coronado Islands has been going strong all spring but has recently fallen off with an influx of cool green water.  There has been good mixed bag fishing for a mix of calico bass, barracuda, yellowtail and rockfish for boats fishing at San Clemente and Catalina Islands with the 150 Spot also producing occasional flurries of yellowtail action.
